Boys Junior Varsity Baseball Red · JV Baseball Wins All Three

The Salado JV Red Baseball team extended their win streak to 8 games. The Eagles hit .400 as a team en route to defeating Lampasas (9-2), Rockdale (4-0), and Caldwell (8-4).

Against Lampasas, Salado would get blanked in the first inning, but the floodgates would open as the Eagles scored 3, 1, and 5 in the remaining 3 frames before time expired. Sophomore Kole Maedgen pitched 4 shutout innings allowing only one infield single. Maedgen also contributed at the plate going 3-3 with a double. Nader Smien, Kory Walker, and Chris Bates would all have 2-hit games as well. Logan Atchison roped a double to right-center as well.

In the first game on day 2 of the tournament, the Eagles didn’t get the big inning, but did enough to defeat the Rockdale Tigers 4-0. Salado would only have four hits in the game and drew two walks, but the pitching and defense kept Rockdale out of it the entire game. Bryce Dobbins scattered 3 hits over 4 innings and struck out 7.

In the final game of the weekend, the Eagles would struggle early giving up a 4 spot to Caldwell in the top of the first. Salado would answer with 4 of their own in the bottom half to knot it up. Jonathan Ullman drew a leadoff walk and advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch. Smien moved him up with a ground ball to the right side before Walker hit a sacrifice fly to give the Eagles their first lead. Salado would put the game out of reach in the 3rd. After a pair of walks, sophomore Daniel Cunningham dropped a bloop single behind second to score Stuart Lastovica before being doubled up on a line drive. Ullmann would also smash a ground rule double to right-center scoring Bates. Dillon McDaniel would close the game out in the last inning getting a groundout and two strikeouts.

Salado will travel to the Bryan-College Station Invitational this weekend where they will see some good baseball.
