At Gatesville the JV girls came out strong as they pulled away a close win for their first game. Katie Law was leading scorer with 18 points and hits the only 3 of the night. Megan Manibusan had 10 points and Jorja Washington followed with 8 points. These girls played with heart and determination to take away a win against a good Gatesville team.
On Saturday in Jarrell, the JV played with only 5 girls and still came out on top winning it all. With injuries, Academic UIL and the flu, we were short-handed with subs , but you would never see these girls giving up. In game one they played Rogers. After a quick start with defensive pressure, the girls were on top 18-4 and from there never let up or looked back. The JV fast and furious five won that game 57-14 with Jorja Washington leading the way with 23 points, Katie Law with 18 and Janiah Del Rio with 12. The championship game was against Jarrell, which the girls fought to stay ahead. This game was a battle that came down to the last seconds. At halftime, the Eagles were up 25-16, until Jarrell closed the lead to 32-27 after the 3rd. The fourth quarter was a battle until the end with the five girls playing a full court defensive game and transitioning. You could see the grit come out as the girls never gave up and ran a sideline play that worked like a champ to gain possession of the game and taking the win 41-40. These girls gave it all the entire game. Katie Law was top scorer with 14, Jorja Washington with 13, Charity Pryor with 7 and Janiah Del Rio with 5.
The girls will travel to Manor to play in a tournament on Thursday and Saturday. Tuesday’s game has been cancelled with Crawford due to volleyball playoffs.
